cuppa the living room UMPC

I have just found out that I’m a finalist for the Next Gen PC design competition.  This year I created a laptop type device that can use TV’s as a ambient monitor, and use the cuppa as a more focused monitor.

I don’t know if I’m the a ‘winner’ yet, but if you like it, please send me public v

Channel 4. Dumped. A solution to the recycling problem.

dumped

After watching the new eco-program on Channel 4. I noticed that there is a apartnet problem with consumers recylcing habits. This program also highlighted the problem of recycling in the UK, and this is the complete lack of caring / putting in the effort.

In the coming weeks I hope to design a better recycling bin to make this process a lot easier. I hope to build on my EnergyTree project, and will also look into SocialCollecting, to create closer links with neiherbours and statiscal anaylsis of the worse offening non-recylcing streets.

Collector
Collector makes use of the community spirit in today’s web 2.0 online societies. The system will be online, and accessed via the touch screen of the EnergyTree. The collector is there to encourage people to recycle and take recycling to the depot to be processed. Once at the depot the collector will get extra green points. Although every person could take there own Re-Tree Bins, not everyone will want to and not every local government can afford to collect and sort the recycling as effective as lots of dedicated collectors.

My First Real Design Project (AS)

I have been doing some PC cleaning recently and stumbled upon these old photos. These are for a ergonomic kettle poorer. The Kettle tipper addressed the problem of not being able to get a steady flow of hot water as the kettle empted. I used a cam motion, the product didn’t really work, and was made pretty badly.

This project taught me a lot, and was my first real introduction to CAD. Using Pro-Desktop for this project.

The Golden Ratio. Face.

The Golden Ratio

is approximately 1.6180339887. This number is the basic ratio of making stuff look good. It can be in Type, Buildings, Products, but most importantly its constantly seen in nature. When creating a product, I would recommend thinking about the golden ratio and how you could use it to complement the form.

As part of a second year university module I applied the Golden Ratio to my class mates faces. You can see the results bellow, I have also included my own Layered TIFF with Overlay, So you see how beautiful you are.
